The show & the DJ

TECHNOTRON is a weekly show, Mondays from 10pm to midnight, on In2beats 106.5FM. The show is focused mainly on techno (as the name suggests) but can also feature acid house, breakbeat, deep house and progressive house in the two hour sets.

Why "TECHNOTRON"? Since its creation in Detroit in the 80s, techno has had a strong connection with science fiction and futurism. Cybotron's Alleys Of Your Mind in 1981 is widely recognised as one of the first techno tracks. The show's name seeks to carry on that connection.

John Warehand's love of dance music began in the late 80s and was cemented during a holiday to Ibiza in Summer 1989; Lil Louis's French Kiss being his defining track of that time. In the early 90s John bought the Technics 1210s that he still has today and DJed at parties and clubs around London.

With other commitments taking priority, it seemed like his DJ days were over by the mid-2000s, and John gave away most of his vinyl. That is until the lockdown of 2020, when he resumed DJing as a creative outlet while stuck at home - adding a Pioneer XDJ-RX2 to his set up and rebuilding his collection.

Noticing that his local radio station didn't have a dedicated slot for techno, consistently one of the most popular genres of dance music, John pitched the idea and TECHNOTRON was born.
